For a time I was being paid by IHOPKC under the table, as I didn’t have a visa that allowed me to work. I was being paid $500 a month for serving in two full time worship teams, “working” for IHOP 50 hours a week. Although this decision was approved by leadership, I was eventually abruptly called in to a one on one meeting with some someone I didn’t know. I sat in a room while an immigration lawyer verbally berated me and threatened me again and again. I was in tears. I was 17 years old. Okie of countless stories I have of IHOPS inability to treat employees or members with kindness and respect.
